Athena
Fate’s rearing her head and gnashing her teeth,
I’m caught between wonder and disbelief.
How did a mortal win this unearned prize?
Is my optimism based upon lies?

Stars in the sky light my way from above,
I feel the energy, bask in the love.
Could this be what it’s like to be reborn?
Locks that once encumbered me now are shorn.

Too much to hope for, to good to be true
Earthly paradise is so shining through
Homer’s odds at sea taught me not to tempt fate
Shouting it to the gods, “I’m feeling first rate!”

Bring on Priam’s Cassandra, scatter them bones
I’ll spit in the eyes of gods on their thrones
