Commenced after Hitler’s war they did thwart,
Heirloom was reminder of his deep love.
Comforting gold band encircled my heart,
Dad’s graduation; many wore olive.

Jesuit education formed the man,
Instilled keen minded Christian perspective.
Passed from the Earth two Februaries span,
Circle of gold proved quite palliative.

Gentle man wore ring for sixty six years,
Four months on my hand was all she could take.
Sight of broken band fills soul with salt tears,
Can hear harsh words from him- careless heartbreak.

Lonely nights I hear his admonishments.
Broken band of gold, forever penance.
