Battleground Training
Decade or more since I’d stepped in dojo,
Eager, belted young children here were no more.
Bowing to black-belts not part of this scene,
Kick-boxing class amps up fitness routine.

Tae Guek patterns performed to driving beat;
Kick, punch and parry with hands, elbows, feet.
“Born to be wild mild,” is my Steppenwolf slant-
Bull Ferd’nand and I eschew violent rants.

Yet pleasure of punching can’t be denied,
Whip mind-body-spirit upward with cries.
Step out of self for at least a short while,
“Too all things a season,” sermon virile.

Pugilist’s life aggression that I reject:
Still, smile with every punch that I inflict!
