Trained from our beginnings to be in camps of us and them;
World of divide and conquer; common people cannot win.
Why sow hatred when it’s desolation that we shall reap?
We’re guided from the cradle to follow like bleating sheep.

Premium Saltines go in my Campbell’s tomato soup;
We’ve all been sold and branded and so many of us duped.
To align ourselves with nations, corporations and teams,
And to play make believe that we all share their hopes and dreams.

Competition is a fact of life, adapt or be killed;
But creating false disharmony is a poison pill.
Rioting in the streets when a Patriot kills a Colt?
Or hiding behind our flag when oppressed people revolt.

Taught to cheer great heroes who have interests just like ours
And rigidly castigate like soviet commissars.
Orthodoxy may be simple but seldom gives insight
To a higher understating than simple black and white.

Tribalism is a vestige of long past clannish days;
So why’s it still sold as a value in the USA?
Hierarchy of skin color, pitting black against white?
Stupid Alt-Right racists claiming they’ll guide us to the light.

Arbitrary demarcations creating us and them?
We’re all just one race regardless of color of our skin.
Infinite variations between one man and the next
Diversity is racial strength, not something that should vex

Unfamiliar encounters need not trigger flee or fight,
We all need to end the madness and develop insight.
Understanding that a difference is not a solid wall;
Each should feel free to love as we wish, heed a higher call.

I am a proud American, I love the USA
But love of country does not blind me to our evil ways.
Judging not by character but rather color of skin?
Is endemic problem that allows ignorance to win.

So, the next time that we’re tempted to boo the other team;
Belittle the other guy to build up our own esteem?
Step back for a moment and ask why we feel need to hate,
And reject vicious mindless branding; swear it’s not too late.

Trained from our beginnings to be in camps of us and them;
World of divide and conquer; common people cannot win.
Why sow hatred when it’s desolation that we shall reap?
We’re guided from the cradle to follow like bleating sheep.
