The United States has reached a crossroads,
Where her denizens are too oft divided and torn.
Some deep patriots dread red, white and blue may implode,
While other citizens fear they’re sheep who’re being shorn.
Our great nation was formed as foe of tyranny
But liberty’s imperiled in land of the free.
For whom does that star-spangled banner yet wave?
Value all citizens or dismiss dissenters as knaves?

Hot headed men fought over acts intolerable;
Pledged sacred honor in pursuit of liberty.
Independence they declared, then killed to make it so;
Sons of these fighters cry, “Foul!” when others take a knee.
Our land is divided into haves and have nots,
And legislated injustice is sign of dry rot.
When shall we acknowledge star-spangled lie that we wave?
Value all citizens or dismiss dissenters as knaves?

Many mores of yore have fallen to history
And what once was accepted is now condemned.
Men who insist God created Patriarchy
Decry as unpatriotic equality’s trend.
Is any so blind as he who refuses to see?
In denying justice for all we mock liberty!
For whom does that star-spangled banner yet wave?
Value all citizens or dismiss dissenters as knaves?

Slow march of time has brought an increase in rights;
Those given naught but chaff fight for their share of wheat.
Who shall ignite torch of Justice, bring forth purest light?
All deserve life giving water both fresh and sweet.
Barred doors must be opened to our fellow citizens;
Granting rights by race, sex or creed is gravest sin.
For whom does that star-spangled banner yet wave?
Value all citizens or dismiss dissenters as knaves?

Liberty belongs to both Patrician and Plebe,
Sure as each man on the earth is a mother’s son.
Opportunity for all is USA’s creed,
Far too long has Liberty’s light been denied to some.
Equality’s anthem no longer shall we repress
Treating citizens equally makes all prosperous.
For whom does that star-spangled banner yet wave?
Value all citizens or dismiss dissenters as knaves?
