What could ever be more frightful than a life that’s fraught with fear?
When each and every new encounter has us screaming, “Don’t come near!”
Small minds insist all are implicit in apocalyptic trends
Leaves little room for communication or old rifts to try and  mend.
Seven colors of a rainbow all contained in our white light
Can you not see rainbow’s beauty and in that take delight?

“This is my land, love or leave it!” is the cry of frightened child.
“Give homage, unworthy heathens or forever be exiled!”
Insisting, “I am not a bigot!” in their cookie cutter world
As they bar the doors and windows to all who foreign flags unfurl.

Alt scripture commands, “Castigate your loaves upon the waters!
Reject all refugees that look not like our sons and daughters!
Let only those who look like us and pray to the same God
Enter unto our purebred shores as all else are far too flawed.”

This land must not be corrupted by the tiny, frightened men;
From great civil society tattered souls they so hope to rend.
The days of our fathers have now surely slipped away
It’s not end of civilization that they long to keep at bay.

Each wave upon our shores has truly changed our nation’s face
Rejection of Muslim other is a national disgrace.
These poor, tired, huddled masses are also longing to breathe free;
Who added to Lady Liberty’s words: “Only For Whites Like Me”?
There is no religious litmus test to enter our great land;
Sad call to reject refugees when it’s due to bigotry they are banned.
Those that shout vociferously while condemning folks to die?
Brazen bigots whose stated motivations are such lies.
