Three jokes and a punch line, my daddy’s humor legacy
They were more corny than funny, as dad jokes tend to be

Daddy was a big man, with a laugh bigger than all outdoors
And though Daddy valued honest labor, storytelling he adored
Pops had half-a-dozen good ones, that he loved to share
But three of them were his mainstays, that he’d tell anytime and anywhere

Six foot four was Daddy, a big beast of a man
And Daddy’s favorite tale to tell takes place in a jungle land
A great lion he awakens sniffs the air and looks around
And over in corner of his den a tiny mouse he found

Leo pounces upon that rodent, snatches him up fast as he could
He holds the mouse between his paws and roars out these words
“Who’s the king of the jungle!? Answer right and your life you’ll glean!”
Little Mickey shivers dreadfully but squeaks out Leo is supreme

Lion makes his way out into the jungle dark and deep
Demands royal acknowledgment from everyone he meets
From tiny mouse we move on, six steps to a rhino
But when he challenges trunked pachyderm the meeting turns to blows

Leo demanded homage and Dumbo he just laughed
That elephant picked Leo up and then down he smashed and smashed
As a final insult, Dumbo throws Leo into a thicket of thorns
Leaving Leo in a bloody heap, all battered and torn

“Yeesh!” cried out poor Leo, from his spot down on the ground,
“Just because you don’t know the answer is no reason to get sore!”
Daddy no longer walks among us, he has left the earth
But I still hear his laughter ringing, full of joy and mirth!
