Spinning and weaving and revolving round the sun
Tied up in the gravity of life’s situation
Every day in circles we watch the heavens turn
Age may bring us wisdom but for youth often still yearn

As darling, helpless infants we begin our journeys
Suckled on the gift of life on our parents’ knees
World view we develop, for better or for worse,
Is seen through the prism of accident of our birth

Butcher, baker, lawyer, perhaps a preacher man
Heartache mitigated with support from loving clan
Cannot choose our family but we can choose to love
Most dire situations gain strength from God above

In flash of an instant life’s wheel appears to turn
Childhood’s left behind us as own bread we must now earn
Coddled children fathom not depth of a mother’s heart
Is there any role more blessed than a parent’s part?

Spinning and weaving and revolving round the sun
Tied up in the gravity of life’s situation
Every day in circles we watch the heavens turn
Age may bring us wisdom but for youth often still yearn

A generation passes, another score of years
Swept along in flow of time, happiness and tears
Our childhood has long passed, youth’s been swept away
But with our advancing years given new roles to play

Babies grow to adults and strike out on their own
Great pleasure in the heartache of watching them grow
Aches and pains encountered are not all of the heart
March of days takes its toll, ravages cannot thwart

No more peep of sparrows, fledglings have left the nest
Sometimes it’s the middle years that are the hardest test
Raising up our children gives structure to our lives
Melancholy happiness as they achieve and thrive

Spinning and weaving and revolving round the sun
Tied up in the gravity of life’s situation
Every day in circles we watch the heavens turn
Age may bring us wisdom but for youth often still yearn

Happily ever after, fairy-tale fantasy
Mighty poor predictor for paths of our destinies
All forced to make adjustments traveling round the sun
When we think we’ve got it made new chapter’s begun

Fortunate are those with love and family intact
Journey to adulthood, segue into final act
Possessions once viewed as precious now seen as fool’s gold
It’s glory of His love that never does grow old

Thankful for life’s sweetness but now’s not time to slow down
Though we’re easily tired haven’t reached our final round
Past glories can be eclipsed by tomorrow’s sun
Pace it may have lessened but spirits still long to run

Spinning and weaving and revolving round the sun
Tied up in the gravity of life’s situation
Every day in circles we watch the heavens turn
Age may bring us wisdom but for youth often still yearn
