“That which does not kill us makes us stronger,”
Is cliché from Nietzsche not from Rome.
Course a huge problem with this statement?
Lots of stuff will break us, leave us maimed and torn.

A crucible’s a trial by fire,
intensely heated funeral pyre;
world is full of tests best not faced alone.
Songs of triumphant survivors? Ignore millions with no place to go.

Been hearing shallow calls to greatness,
pathetic preachers of contempt and hatred,
despots who swear they want to save us,
when what they really want is to be enthroned.

“Carpe Diem,” seize the day, each has got our role to play
we accomplish more together than on our own.
When we stand together as a force united,
refuse to bow to those that would divide us, we grow.

“I got mine, forget you guys,” is no battle cry
to raise us up from squalor that we ourselves have grown.
World’s in need of leaders, not some fools to bleed us;
corrupt fiddlers stealing as flames engulf Nero’s home.

It’s both what we do and what we say.
What’s with laws preventing equal and fair play?
Power to discriminate and dominate just needs to go away,
gotta shift the status quo to greater liberty.

I come first and you come last, vestige of an evil past;
world needs to rise above tribalism at last.
Leaving billions of brothers in the gutter?
Malnourished babies clutching mothers? Days of walls are past.

Our destinies are not manifest.
Need to put imperialism out to rest.
Good God! Put compassion to the test,
oligarchs and plutocrats live to feather their own nests.

Don’t need return to vassals,
kick those kings out of their castles
fill in the moats and tyrants overthrow.
We need to send self serving Capos home.

“That which does not kill us makes us stronger,”
Is cliché from Nietzsche not from Rome.
Course a huge problem with this statement?
Lots of stuff will break us, leave us maimed and torn.
