Ocean dark and foreboding stands between we two,
a barrier ominous that keeps me from you.
She’s weighty and she’s mighty, dark and oh so deep,
her sinister tsunamis keep you from my reach.

Once we two played together, swimming side by side,
until apart we drifted, carried by the tide.
At first the gap was tiny, infinitesimal;
languorously we listed, and watched chasm grow.

Insidious the issue of growing schism
till our separation served as darkest prison.
No longer could I reach you, hand I could not touch,
but yet ever further apart we two did rush.

Furlongs turned to miles, which then drifted to leagues;
a demise born of neglect, not some lover’s siege.
‘Twas not for lack of loving, rather lack of care,
idyll by the sea left me alone in despair.

In doldrums that followed you simply slipped away.
Bitterness now tasted when once all was dolce.
Missed your touch, your sight, your scent but said not a word;
Spirit unattended caused love to be interred.

Our love was a fortress and we were under siege
and it was lack of sustenance that made you leave.
It’s written man cannot live by mere bread alone
without loving attention our house was no home.

Our sweet garden of loving holds naught but a corpse,
our love from butterfly to grub has metamorphed.
Flame that sustained us we have allowed to expire;
can we reignite embers and love reacquire?

Gladly travel the distance across stormy sea;
face fierce tempests and cyclones to bring you to me.
‘Twas I who let us drift and I must have you back
see clearly that neglect is a brutal attack.

I will traverse brine ocean to return to you,
drop down on my knees and beg to begin anew.
There is no guarantee in your eyes I’ll see love
but I am supplicant with olive branch and dove.

It’s an ill wind indeed that blows nobody fair;
pray once more you can love this heart that I’ve laid bare.
Is there a chance that we two can again be one?
Or will my advances be rejected and shunned?

Nothing but pride to lose and heaven to regain;
shall we rekindle love? Or have hope seared by flames?
Your love’s worth any risk, fact I see clearly now,
to make our love bloom again is my sacred vow.

Ocean dark and foreboding stands between we two,
a barrier ominous that keeps me from you.
She’s weighty and she’s mighty, dark and oh so deep,
her sinister tsunamis keep you from my reach.
