Jane swung with Tarzan, Lone Ranger, Tonto, Bruce Wayne had Robin as Gotham patrolled. Fine men and women with lives intertwined, dynamic partners whose powers combined. Combined for justice and keeping folks safe, not vigilantes whose bullets just strafe.
Heroes of legend who know wrong from right for truth and justice they’re willing to fight, but all these heroes are just make-believe, in the real world know we’re easily deceived. Deceived with thinking that with a pure heart through violent actions heroes can impart a world that’s safe, a world more benign; executioner in hero’s sublime?
The easy answer from simian past is to hit harder and do it damn fast; perpetuating Divine Right of Kings who know their actions is God ordained thing? Story we swallow ’bout might making right is just whitewashing brutality’s fright. Justification of violent action is that it feels good; don’t mean to be glib.
Sentementizing the actions of brutes? Very tool used to radicalize youth. Painting a picture inside of the minds hot-headed youngsters internally wired, they’re wired to pummel and pound with their fists against infractors don’t do as they wish.
Romanticizing the tough-guy sheriff whose view of justice is what he’ll dispense? Is very reason we have an uptick mass-murder shootings, deceived fanatics.
Root of the problem is glorifying easy solution of heroes lynching. Lynching and killing with a conscience clear; just clearing streets of subhuman debris. Two-hundred cent’ries reign of Modern Man, surely past time for us to understand that problem solving beyond junkie’s fix requires action that’s not flying fists and demarcating some as infidels; perpetuation of our earthly hell.
Edgar Rice Burroughs and Gaylord Du Bois, Gotham’s Bill Finger are all long dead now. World’s getting crowded, no more elbow room, Man needs to grow up; we ain’t on Barsoom.
