Gawarsh and Gawain the other disdained
and thus a duel was declared.
The duel was to be at quarter till three,
smack middle of the town square.
“Gawarsh is an oaf,” was Gawain’s discourse,
“and I shall settle his score!”
While Gawarsh did know Gawain did libel.
“Whenever speaks he’s a bore.”
“This is very thing,” Gawain’s voice did ring
when heard complaint of Garwarsh.
“Moronic notion. Libel’s not spoken!
His word abuse I shall quash!”
“Oh pity Gawain,” Gawarsh did proclaim,
“technically slander’s spoken,
but the man’s a tool and soon he shall mewl.
Come duel time he’ll be broken.”
“Slanderous being,” Gawain said seething,
“I’ll show him a thing or two,”
and when the time chimed at two-forty-five
both duelists to town square flew.
Seems Field of Honor for pair of monsieurs
in square steep slope spread with scree.
“If you two must duel,” town’s mayor had ruled,
“you’ll need great agility.”
Pearl handled Gawarsh and bone gripped Gawain
on scree pile stood back to back
towards left danced Gawarsh, while right twirled Gawain,
each pacing way for attack.
The number thirteen did rule as supreme
-Triskaidekaphilia!-
as both turned as one and fired their guns
“Truth and honor!” their mantras.
The bullets flew wide, but assuaged was pride,
for both our hoary old gents.
Gawarsh was embraced and Gawain made haste
to journal the day’s events.
Myopic Gawarsh, cataract Gawain
each knew they’d been proven right.
No quarter’d been asked, no wisdom’d been found
by pair of much errored knights.
Below is a link to a reading of my Gawarsh and Gawain poem.
